Our Mission
In promoting justice for individuals with mental health challenges, we must ask: How do we redefine accountability not just as a consequence but as an opportunity for recovery and transformation? The Foundation is not only a support structure for the MHC but a catalyst for change that can ultimately reshape lives, break cycles of recidivism, and foster true rehabilitation.
Purpose and Goals:
The Shelby County Mental Health Court Foundation supports the Shelby County Mental Health Court (MHC) in its mission to rehabilitate individuals with mental health conditions involved in the criminal justice system. The Foundation’s core objective is to reduce recidivism while promoting recovery capital—the resources and support systems individuals need to manage their mental health and reintegrate into society successfully.
Our Foundation Mission

“The Shelby County Mental Health Court Foundation supports the Mental Health Court by reducing recidivism and promoting recovery capital. We secure resources, build partnerships, and ensure sustainable support systems that enable individuals to manage their mental health and successfully reintegrate into society.

The Foundation’s goals are:
  1. Reduce Recidivism: Provide individuals with the tools, education, and community support to break the cycle of criminal justice involvement.
  2. Promote Recovery Capital: Facilitate access to mental health services, treatment programs, and resources that enable sustainable recovery.
  3. Resource Development: Secure funding for programs focused on treatment, rehabilitation, and community reintegration.
  4. Collaboration: Build partnerships with mental health professionals, legal authorities, and community organizations to strengthen program effectiveness.
  5. Sustainability: Ensure the long-term success of the MHC through strategic resource planning and community engagement.
